How to Create an h1 Header
For SEO purposes, to improve search engine ranking, you will find a plain/simple page title less desirable than a proper h1 Header. This is not to be confused with the page title which appears along with the web address in a search results page, the one you gave the page in the formatting process. With a simple page title, which may appear as an actual h1 header, a look at the page source will not disclose the h1 header code search engine spiders look for to tell them what the page is about. Many SEO professionals will agree that h1 Headers are necessary to make each and every page of your site "search engine friendly."

1. Edit your h1 Header so it appears like any proper page title should. Make it bold, centered and underlined.
2. Place your h1 Header at the top of each page, above any images or other text blocks. This is easy to do, if your page builder is the drag & drop variety, by simply placing and editing a custom HTML element. Otherwise, place the code in the body below any bookmarking button codes. 3. Decide which type and size of font to use. In the example below, "decoration," the text will appear as a 16-18 point font which resembles Verdana. This is fine, although you may wish to reduce the size a bit and find you cannot. 4. Choose another option, recommended by many as the better choice for h1 Headers. The following example allows for three different fonts, in case the visitors Browser does not support one or another. With this code, you can easily change the font size and color.
Tips:
* If your page title does not describe the content; by all means, write a short description, edit it into the h1 code and place it above your title. You could then edit your title with the same format - changing the anchor text to h2 instead. * You can remove the underline, by removing either the word "underline" or the <u></u> anchors. * You can change the font to normal from bold, in the second example, by removing the <b></b> anchors. * You can and should place your h1 Header below your "AddThis" or "ShareThis" bookmarking/favoriting code entries. Warning: * The h1 header is NOT the place to add your keywords or Meta description. Copyright 07/03/2011 All rights reserved. Questions? Comments? Contact Me Related Articles: Business |
